automotive history in MOUNT HAMILTON.Well what can you say about it?
If you you know your history on the car a lot.
My grandfather had one out back of his farm house in rockton ontario.
I used to sit in it and pretend i was racing around a track.
When my grandfather finished driving it as a car he used it in the rockton derby for a while.
His was a 1964, one of the first 100 off the lot from the manufacturers.
It was a mid sized car that was made from 1964 1977 from what i remember.
My grandfather sure knew his cars.
There were also coupes and convertibles as well.
My grandfather said that the chevy chevelle was built to compete against the ford fairlane.
It was also used as a basis for the design of the beaumont which was retrimmed and sold only in canada.
Grandpa had one of these in his back yard too.
From 1966 to 1972 they made four door hard tops of the popular chevelle models.
For a year in 1964 to 1965 you could get chevelle station wagons, my uncle had one of these.
It was from the chevelle 300 series.
Another member of the chevelle line was the chevy chevelle el camino wagon, they also had a passenger car by the same name.
I always loved there muscle car which was the 1969 chevelle ss396.
A lot of these models in canada had the malibu ss badge on them.
The engines included 396 in v8s rated at 325, 350 and 375 hp.
The ss396 series only lasted three years from 1966 through 1968.
After that you had to pay for it as an option.
My grandfather only drove two kinds of cars in his life.
Chevrolets and later on in life subarus.
But he knew his car history.
After 1977 it was one of the chevelle line of cars that replaced the chevy chevelle.
It was called a chevy chevelle malibu which was changed to the chevy malibu and was also a best seller.
In 196566 you could get the regular chevelle and malibu with an optional 350horsepower 327 cubicinch v8.
After 1968 they started building z16 chevelles in baltimore.
I would never sell them because they are too old and to hard to get anymore.
I am keeping them for their sentimental value in my safety deposit box.
I was only born in 1970 so i only got to see that car at a car rally in burlington ontario.
It is just so fascinating to see how many models of a car a company can come up with in such a short time.
It was a 1977, it was just the basic chevelle model but he had a 307 two barrel model with racing stripes.
It had power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, air conditioning, a stereo radio, vinyl top, full wheel covers and white wall tires.
I used to watch my old black and white tv to see the chevelles driving in the races.
I never had a colour tv until the late 70s.
My parents bought their first colour tv in 1977 so up until i was 7 i never got to see colour pictures.
It would have been nice to see the chevelle models still in use today but now we can only see them at car shows.
Well, that is all i remember about chevelles in a nutshell.
But i did find out though that the nascar racers who ran chevelles on the circuit were darrell waltrip, junior johnson, benny parsons, cale yarborough, bobby and donnie allison, bobby isaac, lennie pond, a.
Foyt, ricky rudd, dale earnhardt and female racer janet guthrie.
